The Department of Rural Development is implementing rural electrification projects using solar home systems in villages where it is challenging to supply electricity through the national power grid due to factors such as scattered households, long distances between villages, and poor transportation connectivity.
[pdf] In partnership with Space Solar, Reykjavik Energy, and Transition Labs, Iceland aims to build a solar power plant in orbit, projected to generate up to 30 megawatts of electricity — enough to power thousands of homes.
[pdf] Located in the city of Barranquilla in northern Colombia, this project will consist of a 45 MWh lithium-ion battery energy storage system and is expected to reach commercial operation by June 2023.
