In partnership with Space Solar, Reykjavik Energy, and Transition Labs, Iceland aims to build a solar power plant in orbit, projected to generate up to 30 megawatts of electricity — enough to power thousands of homes.
[pdf] This project — a collaboration between the Rwandan government, Hakan Madencilik, and Energy Solutions — will meet the electricity needs of over 300,000 households and support the country’s goal of achieving 100% electrification by 2024.
[pdf] The project, dubbed IceOpt: Storing The Future, will see the optimization of an already modern grid. Iceland has been the world standard in renewable generation, with onlookers borrowing their techniques to improve domestic energy portfolios in the shift towards a greater renewable revolution.
