The Department of Rural Development is implementing rural electrification projects using solar home systems in villages where it is challenging to supply electricity through the national power grid due to factors such as scattered households, long distances between villages, and poor transportation connectivity.
[pdf] The solar power plant will be constructed in Bakuma Town, Lofa County, and serve as the backbone of a hybrid generation system, also featuring a 1.8 MW diesel plant and a 250,000-liter underground diesel storage unit.
[pdf] Under the RBF programme of the Green People´s Energy Namibia (GPE), farmers and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in rural areas receive a subsidy of 30 to 50 percent if they purchase, for example, a PV solar system or a solar water pump from selected solar installation companies.
